Led by owner and woodworker Stan Archer, the company brings a hands-on mindset to every project, shaped by experience, careful planning, and a respect for the details that matter.

BUILT FOR COASTAL NORTH CAROLINA

For approximately 22 years, Archer Read Woodworking has served homes and spaces across coastal North Carolina with custom cabinetry and millwork tailored to the region’s style and way of living.

Our shop builds kitchens, baths, built-ins, offices, libraries, feature pieces, and specialty woodwork with an emphasis on sound construction and refined execution. That experience has shaped an understanding of what works well here—pieces that feel timeless, practical, and well suited to the character of coastal homes and spaces.

How we bring your project from conception to completion.

A CLEAR PROCESS, BUILT WITH CARE

Initial Meeting

Every project begins with a conversation. During the initial meeting, we take time to learn about your space, your goals, and how you want the finished work to look and function. We discuss the overall scope of the project, review style preferences, and talk through the details that will shape the final result. This first step gives us the chance to understand your vision, answer questions, and begin building a clear path forward.

Once we have a solid understanding of the project, we begin exploring the best options for your space. This may include layout ideas, cabinetry features, materials, finishes, storage solutions, and design details that help bring the project into focus. Our goal during this stage is to help you weigh choices carefully so the final direction feels both practical and well suited to the character of the home or space.

Plans & Specs

With the overall direction established, we move into the details that define the project. Measurements are confirmed, specifications are reviewed, and the plans are refined so there is a clear understanding of what will be built. We prepare both traditional and 3-D drawings, depending on the project. This step helps ensure that proportions, features, materials, and finish details are thoughtfully considered before construction begins. Taking the time to get these details right creates a stronger foundation for the work ahead.

After the plans and specifications are clearly outlined, we prepare a quote for the project. This gives you a better understanding of the scope of work, the materials involved, and the investment required to move forward. We believe this part of the process should be clear and straightforward, allowing clients to review the details with confidence and ask questions along the way. Good communication here helps set the tone for a smooth project overall.

Construction

Once everything is approved, the work moves into construction. This is where the planning begins to take shape in the shop through careful craftsmanship, quality materials, and close attention to detail. Each piece is built with a focus on fit, function, and finish, with the goal of creating work that feels as good in daily use as it looks in the completed space. We utilize CNC methods along with the irreplaceable skilled hands of our woodworkers and take pride in building with care and consistency every step of the way.

Installation is the final stage where the project comes together in the space it was made for. We coordinate this step with care to help ensure the finished work is installed properly, fits as intended, and reflects the quality of the process that led up to it. By the time installation is complete, the goal is for the project to feel seamless, polished, and truly at home in the space.
